ALCATEL-LUCENT POLICIES
CODE OF CONDUCT
The Alcatel-Lucent Code of Conduct is the cornerstone of the company’s Ethics & Compliance Management System. It sets out the company’s standards for ethical business conduct and is binding on all employees globally in their daily activities, including relations with competitors, suppliers, shareholders, partners and customers.
The standards in the Code of Conduct are based not only on the laws and regulations in force, but also on the notions of integrity, respect, equity, diversity and ethics. The code is available in 22 languages and is posted on the company Intranet site, which also provides links to additional resources.
GLOBAL HUMAN RIGHTS POLICY
In June 2011, a significant milestone in the area of Human Rights has been reached by the release of the United Nations (UN) Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. They established the UN Protect, Respect and Remedy Framework — the so-called “Ruggie Principles” — which clarifies the responsibility of governments to protect human rights and the responsibility of the business community to respect human rights in their global business operations and eco-system.
As a result of today’s changing geopolitical landscape, Alcatel-Lucent has updated its Human Rights Policy, designed to ensure proper treatment of our workforce and interaction with external stakeholders around the world. In parallel, Alcatel-Lucent will continue to work with key industry stakeholders to dialogue on our common responsibilities to human rights across the world.
On March 12, 2013 the Industry Dialogue launched the Telecommunications Industry Dialogue on Freedom of Expression and Privacy Guiding Principles. These principles address the issues of privacy and freedom of expression as they relate to the telecommunications sector, specifically exploring the interaction and boundaries between a government’s duty to protect human rights and the corporate responsibility of telecommunications companies to respect human rights.
ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH AND SAFETY (EHS) POLICY
Alcatel-Lucent is committed to operating in a manner that protects the environment and the health and safety of employees, contractors, customers and the communities where the company operates.
RESPONSIBLE PURCHASING POLICY
Consistent with our Code of Conduct and Human Rights Policy, Alcatel-Lucent is fully committed to promoting Corporate Responsibility (CR) within its supplier base.
EICC SUPPLIER CODE OF CONDUCT
Alcatel-Lucent recently deepened its Supply Chain CSR expectations in requiring application of the standards included in the EICC Supplier Code of Conduct (revision 4), which replaces the Alcatel-Lucent Statement of Business Principles. In aligning with an industry reference, we facilitate adoption by suppliers and improve cascading of our CSR requirements in our Supply Chain. Alcatel-Lucent expects all suppliers, contractors, subcontractors and other third parties providing products, services and/or software to Alcatel-Lucent entities ("Suppliers") to meet the labor, environmental health & safety, management system and ethical standards expressed in the EICC Supplier Code of Conduct (revision 4).
All contracts with Suppliers must include a specific clause whereby the Supplier must acknowledge that the Supplier has been made aware of the EICC Supplier Code of Conduct (revision 4) and that the Supplier agrees to apply the same principles as the ones described in the EICC Supplier Code of Conduct in the Supplier's business. Suppliers also commit to promoting the principles described in this code in their own supply chain.
CONFLICT MINERALS POLICY
In some parts of the world, the exploitation and trade of minerals used to manufacture telecommunications equipment — such as tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold — helps finance or benefit armed groups, often with serious social and environmental consequences.
Alcatel-Lucent published its Conflict Minerals Policy to address the Human Rights and environmental issues connected with the mining and trading of tantalum, tin tungsten and gold which are used in the electronics industry Supply Chain.
